Buying Furniture - Basic Tips For Your Interior Investment

Buying furniture can it drive you nuts sometimes. Tom and I don't purchase new furniture very often. When we are looking for something specific, there are three criteria that I think is very important.
  1. Quality
  2. Comfort
  3. Price
Now you might be thinking, why quality first? Investing into any interior or exterior product has to have quality that will last. Even if you don't plan to keep the purchase long. I spend time looking into each product or material that we are plan to invest in.

If you are shopping in a store, talk to the salesperson in depth about the product. I don't know about you, but there have been times over the years I have walked into a store, fallen in love with the color and the piece of furniture. I have bought it, and brought it home or had it delivered, only to find out in a year it was falling apart. What a lesson to be learned in quality product shopping. Don't just go by one source especially if it is a big purchase.

There are many resources available today to help you decide in quality products. Understand the details of any warranty involved. Know the difference between a life time guarantee and a limited warranty. Quality is a key to purchasing a product and also in doing any interior project.

Comfort is another factor to look at when buying furniture or other indoor items. Of course when it comes to sofas, chairs, and beds, we are all aware that comfort is important. One thing to think about as far as comfort, is other people whether family, friends, or guests. Would they feel comfortable sitting our sleeping with your new purchase? I also look at another aspect of comfort. The way a room is presented. Does it invite you and others to come in and relax? If the look and feel of any room is appealing and and soothing, your comfort level as well as others will be assured.

Price is a factor today in our society. There are many brands available today with so many different colors, textures, and styles. Have you ever walked into a furniture store and feel like you are in a maze? So many different pieces. Know ahead in your mind what you can afford, as well as the possible colors, size, and texture you are looking for. As far as cost, don't always look for the cheapest bargin. Bargins can be a good investment if you look at quality and comfort first.

Go ahead and check out sales and keep up to date with what different stores offer as far as financing. Check out delivering fees and any hidden fees. As a designer, I am one to obvious look at colors, textures, and visualize what that particular piece of furniture or other item will look like in the room. Researching and doing your homework on all aspects of buying furniture is very important.

Besides, quality, comfort, and price, look at having the furniture long or short term. There are many couples and families that move often due to jobs. Others stay in a living establishment for a long time. A good idea is to think down the road long term with this type of investment. We all know circumstances arise where we have to move and this investment may not be feasible for the move. Once again this is awareness of your interior investment and what is right for you.

Also think about how you plan to arrange the furniture once you decide to purchase it. If you have a small area, think about how you are going to arrange the room before buying the furniture. If you have a large area or small, think about how this piece or pieces will fit you with other decor.

Another suggestion is to always keep in mind the total balance of the room. Designers are very big on creating a look where each room balances well and flows into the next room. If you are a buying table and chairs, what type of floor do you have, or going to have? Would the chairs scratch or damage the floors? Little things like this is important with each interior investment you make.

This page in the decorating tips section is here for you to think about a few simple suggestions when you buy furniture. Quality, comfort, and price are three factors that can play a role in providing a solid investment for your interior space. Furniture is part of all of our daily lives, and we should create a room with furniture using our own personality, as well as these three items.
