can you put a breakfront in a living room if your dining room is too small

by Jo-Ann
(Homer Glen, IL)

I have a lovely breakfront that was given to me, but my dining room is too small to accommodate a piece this large. Now on the other hand, I have a fairly large living room. Can I put the breakfront in there, or will it look out of place.

Breakfront in Livingroom
by: Kimberly

Hi Jo Ann, thank you for asking the question on your breakfront here at interior decorating ideas for you.

This is an great question to ask and I think there are other people that are in your situation. In the world of interior decorating today, there is no set rule on what pieces of furniture have to go in a certain room. There are a couple of things you can do to incorporate the breakfront into your livingroom.

Look at your overall decor for both rooms. What are you putting in the breakfront? If you are displaying dishes, consider matching color tones and shades to your living room. Add a few items inside the breakfront that will compliment your colors or possible theme in your livingroom. One of the best parts about interior decorating today is creating a room with your own personality. I have done consultations where people have pieces of furniture in one room that aren't the same wood or color tones.

Your goal is to tie in what you have in the breakfront with your accents and accessories in your living room. To be honest, I have rooms that have different stle furniture in each room. I coordinate and balance the room through color tones, pillows, fabrics, plants, collectable items, or accent rugs. These are just a few examples.

I hope this helps, and I would recommend you can do this with a little blending of your colors and other accents and accessories from your livingroom.

Let us know on what you decide, and would love to hear how you blended in everything. Thanks again for asking the question here at interior decorating ideas for you. Have a great day and feel free to ask anytime. If you want some more suggestions on your breakfront, feel free to ask.
Kimberly
