City Restaurant Decorating
For Your Customers Satisfaction
Ah, the fast pace of city life. Everyone is constantly on the go and no time to
sit down and relax for an enjoyable meal.
But wait, they walk down the street and
come across your restaurant. What is going to entice them to walk in and also return?
Of course food is your number one priority. Creating the best menu and food is a definite
big goal for any successful restaurant.
The atmosphere and decor is also another big
factor to entice your customers to become regulars. Big cities have many business people
visiting, and they need to eat.
What type of decor do you have that will show them a little
of your own area as well as a possible theme you may be sharing? I wanted to share with
you a few of my thoughts on taking your family owned big town restaurant or a chain
restaurant and transform the atmosphere into a positive and rewarding experience for
your customers.
This photo shows a sage green color scheme with a formal place setting.
Sage green is a warm and inviting color. The white carnations create an eloquent look to the
table. Use fresh flowers when you can. A little touch of the outside makes the inside a relaxing place
to dine.
Think about the decor your establishment. There are basically two styles of restaurants, one is a city restaurant owned by you, and the other is a chain restaurant.
Let's start out with your own establishment.
You know the competition is there and the bottom line is you want to bring in revenue. You have
worked hard to get the restaurant up and running. How do you get your clientele to come back?
- Quality of food, cost, and menu
- Atmosphere of the interior and the experience each customer will have
- Music - the style of decor and music should compliment each other
- Exterior should reflect the interior in a city or country setting
- Service should be excellent and focus on customer satisfaction
Your quality of food along with the presentation is essential to make your restaurant a success.
Take it a step further with an interior presentation. If you have the space, consider having a formal
area and a casual section. This brings in more diversity of customers.
If you are situated in an area
of the city that attracts a wide variety of clientele, creating a couple of different interior atmospheres
will allow the customer a choice. After a long day of meetings, a nice relaxing atmosphere is just the ticket.
A formal business dinner will highlight the integrity of the business man or woman.
Create an atmosphere with
colors and textures that fit your menu and food. Your accents and accessories should blend in with the foundation
color and complimentary colors.
If you have a defined theme, use the colors that best fit the theme. Beach, think
of colors of the sand and water. Use decor that matches a beach scene.
A culture restaurant should reflect the heritage as
well as other features. A Spanish theme should have accents and accessories that blend with Spain and other
Spanish traditions.
Music plays a big role in setting the tone of a city restaurant. Music should reflect your decor and also the menu. A formal setting
should provide music that reflects eloquence and style. Think about the overall experience you want each of your customers to have,
food, decor, and enjoyment.
The exterior should blend in with the interior. This sometimes seems impossible in a big city, depending on the
ordinances and laws that deal with public buildings. If your outside isn't exactly how you want it and you have no control over it, entice your customers
with accessories or accents on the outside that invites them to enter.
Let's take a look at a few restaurants pictures and see how the decor creates the atmosphere and sets the mood.
The first picture allows you to enter into a neutral tone dining area and the warm natural tones create a soothing atmosphere. I love
the purple color in the drapery. This restaurant owner creates the focal point in neutral with the fabric chairs, tables, and floors. The complimentary
colors in the drapery blends in with the rest of the room.
Notice the mirror on the wall. The wall decor is simple to go along with the neutral theme. Simple color choices yet a
great look for a formal or regular atmosphere.

enrich the value of your establishment.
The rich red tone and gold in the second photo is well balanced through the city restaurant. The owner creates the atmosphere by using
red and gold as the primary decorating colors. The neutral carpet and the soft tone walls creates a warmth to the room. Great balance
and definitely an inviting place to eat.

This photo shows you a totally different dining area. The periwinkle color is
the focal point in this restaurant setting.
The table sets the tone along with the blending of the floor.
The brown shade wicker chairs gives the atmosphere of informal, as the periwinkle introduces
whimsical to the table. White creates a crisp and organized look.
The last two photos are informal and relaxing. The first pictures is a modern style dinner theme. No fancy decor, just a simple layout
of neutral colored booths, and chrome colored round tables. The two tone colored floor accents the booths and tables very nicely.
One section of an orange - cayenne color strip along with the texture walls creates an enjoyable atmosphere for the owners clients.
The last photo is a classical cafe style restaurant. The rod iron chairs accent the neutral floors. A great idea is one like this in the
picture. The tablecloths are done in a tan tone on some tables and white on others. The napkins and place settings intermingle with
the color scheme.
The little shot of the dried Eucalyptus creates an outside mood and natural mood to go along with the table and floors. A great setting for an outside
cafe, bistro restaurant, or country setting.
Your service is another aspect of your success. Create a work atmosphere of enjoyment and a motivation to make your city restaurant profitable for you
and your employees.
A good relationship with employees through communication about attire and other matters is so important. Make each employee
feel special and
needed. A positive stroke creates a successful result.
A chain restaurant usually has a set of standards as far as menu and decor. Your goal as an owner or manager is to keep those standards high as well
as institute the values within the employee structure. Go beyond the usual codes and standards of a chain establishment and create
a fun and relaxing atmosphere for both your customers and your employees.
Inside Out Decorating Store
Restaurant Decor gives you more decorating ideas and selections to spruce up your establishment.
Allow if possible each geographic location to have a little
intimacy with their decor. What I mean by this, let them share their local heritage and surroundings in decor with their clientele.
You and your team set the colors and decor for the overall venue of the restaurants.
Give each establishment the opportunity to put
their own local personality in some of the accents and accessories. City chain restaurants are also competitive, but give your
restaurant chains an edge by giving the outdoor and indoor decorating a little extra boost.
Whether you own your own
family restaurant or have a city establishment,
the interior decor plays a major role in giving each customer a satisfying and relaxing environment.
