Great Room Decorating With Other Room Colors
Great room decorating with so many different colors to choose from.
One of the biggest challenges with interior decorating is blending
colors throughout your living space. I don't know about you, but
when I plan a room for someone or for my own home, I ponder so many
different possible tones and shades that would blend in with the entire
decorating scheme.
Decorating a great room, family room, or an entertainment
room can be the focal point of your living space. Many of these
rooms have vaulted, trey, or large ceilings. Others are smaller but
represent the main living area. How do we take a room and balance it
with color and decor with other rooms? Many apartments, condominiums, and different
style homes have a large room as a main focal point. Here are a few simple ideas to blend
in colors from top to bottom.
The diagram above shows you a foundation color in the great room or main living area. Of
course you can use any color you want. The
bold and bright color tone of this great room
makes a definite statement to the entire living area. Using bold tones can be softened by lighter
colors in rooms coming off the main living space. The deep teal or turquoise color creates an atmosphere where white
woodwork and ceiling would compliment this color nicely. This diagram represents a larger room. Don't be
afraid to use your own personality in a small area either. You can put a bold color in a small main living
space as long as you balance the rest of the other rooms.
Balancing the areas means bringing in complimentary
colors of the teal or turquoise family. A softer tone yellow in one or two rooms. A white or light neutral
tone kitchen. A bedroom done in a different shade of the teal or turquoise family would also work. Another
possible color to introduce is a light melon or cayenne shade.
Here are three colors I love putting together in a great room area. You can actually mix
and match these so if you want your softer yellow tone as your main feature, accent other
rooms with your bolder teal and possibly use the softer melon color for a kitchen area. You could
use all these three colors in balancing your entire area. Blend in the three colors with your
accents and accessories. If doing a
beach
theme, white furniture can set these tones soaring.
Your main goal when decorating any one main
room, is to take your base foundation color, and blend in complimentary colors either in the same
family or other colors that match well. Lets take a look at another possibility.
Neutrals or earth tones are very popular today. You can do an entire living area blending in
neutral colors, or take a base earth tone and create your foundation color with a tan or taupe color.
Play off these colors with other neutral shades in adjoining rooms. There is no set role in bringing
in a few other complimentary colors in other rooms, accents, or accessories. The key is to decorate your
living space with the right blend of colors and also bring out your own personality.
Great room decorating can be a lot of fun to do. Mixing and matching with foundation colors, as well as creating your own unique look
using your special accents and accessories. If you are a developer of a condominium complex or apartment
complex, consider decorating different buildings in a
theme.
You can create this through a theme color scheme, or a specific theme such as tropical, nature or other themes.
Whether you are decorating your own living space or for others, bring out your own personality as
well as featuring and highlighting areas around the structure. You will see this in many tourists
areas. Coastal areas highlight lighthouses, ocean sunrises and sunsets, shells, etc.. Incorporate
your outside features inside and also your inside features outside around the building. These
two attributes contribute to a great look all around.
