Ah, I remember the purple Lilac room, the bold flowers, a stark white room, hum, that one didn't stay that long.
One of the things I did was give them the option of different colors over a period of time.
To save a little money instead of constantly changing colors, I would change out the comforter or bedspread. The girls sometimes had a summer comforter and a winter one. This gave them a new look every once in awhile.
Themes, colors, accents, and accessories are all part of creating a warm and inviting place for your child. An idea is to have your children make some crafts and display them in their room. This shows real identity and ownership for his or her living space.

I love tortoise and turtles. Now you may think I am a little strange, but I have a tortoise collection sitting next to my workstation. All different figurines and a couple of stuffed animals.
This is the beauty of decorating with stuffed animals and other children's decor, adults can decorate with these colors and accessories too. This stuffed turtle is great for a toddler or pre-schooler, and I know I would consider adding it to my collection. Browse through the toys and games at our Inside Out Store.
A couple of other ideas is to consider decorating some different sports themes in room, especially favorite teams.. Outdoors an the nature colors is another great idea for young people to use in a theme.

Colors for kids can range from the primary shades, to soft pastel tones.
The neutral stuffed animal softens the brighter colors. I love the small yellow star and deep pink star pillow. A very inviting color scheme for children. Notice also the trim on the bigger pillow. A combination using the complimentary colors. Great balance to this color theme.

The floral pattern in the rug and chair provide a great accent to the room. The sitting bench cushion matches the walls. The pillow blend in with the floral and light sage walls. Great formal look for any age. The next two photos create a totally different look in feel for a variety of ages.

I will periodically display them when I change a room around. I love the country quilt and how it blends in with the dolls. Patchwork style is great for an old time or country look.
Notice the two pillows. One is completely done in patchwork, while the other has a white base with a center square. The wood furniture sets the stage for this distinct country look and feel.

The light wood tone in the bed frame and furniture creates a balance and warmth to the bedroom. Great idea for the budget minded person. This style can be done in different colors for all ages.
