Mantle - Christmas And Holiday Decorating

Mantle decorating for Christmas and the holidays can add such a new dimension to your room. The fireplace is one of my favorite things to decorate during the holidays. Each year I basically have the same theme but use a little different twist to the figurines and colors. One of the best parts of changing each year is I don't spend any money. Having collected trinkets, garland, and miniature lights over the years, other then replace a strand of lights now and then, I change out the holiday decorations from room to room.

There are so many different ways to decorate your fireplace. One of the first things to think about is color. Is it a natural wood color or painted? Matching wood tones with your mantle at the holidays is very important for balance in the room.Ours is painted in white and I like to play off the white with the figurines and also the garland and lights. I wanted to share with you a couple of photos of our fireplace.

Christmas Mantle

Christmas 2008 Mantle

Christmas 2008. I kept the white accent lights as this is our family room and in the evening we like to shoot a few games of darts or play ring toss. I know, older people do crazy things in the evening sometimes. Notice the blue garland wrapped in colored miniature lights. The garland sparkles in the evening hours and adds to the festive mood of Christmas and the holiday season. I decided on blue as to accent some of the beach and tropical theme I have in the room. The figurines were placed on the mantle first and then the lights and garland were carefully wrapped around each figure. There are nine figurines and two accent lamps. Remember, decorate with odd numbers. We used an extension cord of the side of the fireplace so we could have the holiday lights and accents lights available.

Close Up Of Mantle

Christmas- 2009. As you can see I did a little different look on the mantle. I took solid greenery and wrapped white miniature lights around the greenery. I also decided to add a little height to the decor on the mantle. Took a candle holder that I use throughout the year and put five different figures of santa's and snowmen on each tier. I added some height with the surrounding figurines all the way across. The two lamps adds onto the height of the entire mantle. After I had completed this, I wanted to balance the colors with the piano across the room. I add some red and white tone garland to the along the greenery and lights. Doing the lights with just the greenery or adding the garland gives you two different looks.

Holiday Wreath

Some years I will add a wreath that I got as a gift a couple of years ago. This is an artificial wreath, and I don't recommend using a live wreath above the fireplace. The wreath brings the wall and fireplace together and blends well with other accents and accessories in the room.

Wreath And Mantle

I also wanted to add these photos and share a couple of pictures of our very close friends fireplace.

Holiday Decorated Fire Place

I love the look of this fireplace. Simple, eloquent and very natural looking. The rich wood tones brings out the greenery and red candles. Notice the odd numbers, three candles and four wooden figures.

Now to decorate your own fireplace, think about any type of theme you may have in the room or nearby rooms. Blend in the colors of your room with holiday colors. If you want a formal look, white lights will create the atmosphere along with white garland. If you don't want to use garland, put some porcelain figurines along the mantle.

If you decorate country style, add some tin cans along with some tall santa's, snowmen, and other country decor. Whether you like formal, country, Victorian, or whimsical, create your mantle with your own personality. Putting figurines, garland with lights, will create a cozy area for you and your family to enjoy. Having a fire in the evening hours with your living space and mantle decorated in the holiday spirit allows you to kick back and relax. We would love to see your holiday decorations and some of your own ideas for decorating your fireplace area.
