Older And New Fabrics Create A Colorful Look Your Interior

Older fabrics can have so many different meanings and values to each of us. If some of you have been reading this Web site, you know I love to decorative with items and material already around the house. I like to think of creative ways to incorporate different accents and accessories and give a room a new look. This page will give you some ideas how to take some things that has been around your living space, add a few incredible cheap accessories and create a nice atmosphere for any time of year. Below are eight different photos of how I took a combination of older and new items and created a look from the past and the present.

This tablecloth dates back in the sixties. My mom was notorious for having tablecloths like this one. She would spent the time ironing each week and putting on a different tablecloth with a variety of colors and designs. As she got older she began to give these to my sisters and myself. I treasure each item my mom gave me as when I display them in our home, it makes us feel she is right with us.

Older Tablecloth
This tablecloth dates back in the sixties. My mom was notorious for having tablecloths like this one. She would spent the time ironing each week and putting on a different tablecloth with a variety of colors and designs. As she got older she began to give these to my sisters and myself. I treasure each item my mom gave me as when I display them in our home, it makes us feel she is right with us.

Brown Tone Placemat
If you look at the tablecloth you can see the different color tones. Warm sage green with orange and light brown colors. The white background gives the area a fresh feeling. The style of this tablecloth can be considered country, down home, and even whimsical. In each of the pictures below, I wanted to show you how to take this tablecloth and create an inexpensive summertime feel. This table is out in our screened in porch area.

The first thing I did was add a square solid color placement. Notice how it blends in with the brown tones. I have had these placemats for about a year now and use them in the kitchen, dining room, and on the porch.

Bright Green Placemat
I decided I wanted to create a little different look and add some color to the brown tone placemat. Recently I bought four bright green round very inexpensive placemats. I added the green placements over the brown ones. This gives you a more defined visual of the different colors in the older tablecloth. I also have the option to use either one separately or together. This gives you a new look each time you can the placements out.

Whimsical Plate
My sister up in Ohio sent this summertime plate set for Christmas. Ah, the light bulb went off in taking the plates and using them with this decor. Your pattern in the plate doesn't have to be the exact match that is on your tablecloth. The pattern in the plate is fun and warm, but so are the older colors in the tablecloth.

Bowl And Cup Matches Plate
The bowl I put upside down as it matches the plate and can be seen better. This gives you a little different look in a place setting. The red cup adds some more color to the table. Putting red and orange together works well with this decor as there is red and orange tones in the plate and bowl.

Old And New Style Of Decorating
I wanted to add a little more flare to the place setting and if you know me, I love candles and small accessories. Each candle of green, red-orange, and white blends in well with the older tablecloth as well as the place setting. The other accessory is one of my favorites to do in a fun and warm setting.

Pepper Accessories
Adding another food theme to the older and new decor, can add more spice to your final result. I love the look and colors of the peppers as dishes, napkin holder and also salt and pepper shaker. Notice how all the colors blend with the older table cloth.

Stripe Chair Cushions
The final picture is the newest of this entire decorating idea. I recently bought four new chair cushions for the porch. I had other ones for nine years and figured it was time for a little investment as they were getting worn. I love the stripe look and also how each other matches the other shades in all the other decor. The walls are done in the soft lime green and the ceiling is painted in a light cayenne pepper tone.

Simple, cheaply done, and a easy small way to create a new look using older and new fabric. The chair cushions were the most expensive item out of this decorating idea. Thy cost $44.00, but considering I had the others for nine years there was no guilt on my part. The candles were three for a $1.00. The plate and accessories were a gift. The brown placemats - $20.00, and the green placemats, $6.00. The cayenne pepper set were also a gift from my sister. So bottom line, For around $71.00 I took an older tablecloth and other accessories and created a fun and relaxing atmosphere for my family. Each item I bought is an investment that can be used in different rooms. I hope this gets your juices flowing to create a look with some older and new accents and accessories.

By the way, if you haven't seen a picture of the fireplace that is out on the porch, head on over to sponge paint a room and have some fun. I love decorating by taking simple things and creating a new look for everyone to enjoy!
