Our family room is 7 steps down from our living room and the rooms are open to each other. When recarpeting, is it ok to use complementary colors in these 2 rooms, or should the carpeting be the same?

Same Carpet Or Complimentary Carpet
by: Kimberly

Hi, Kimberly here from interior decorating ideas for you. Thank you for asking the question on the carpet in your living room and family room.

One of the things to do when deciding on new carpet, is your overall colors. Are you walls in the same color or complimentary colors? What about your accents and accessories?

You can do either one, same carpet or a complimentary carpet. Today, people are decorating with just about any color, as long as they blend in together.

If you are going in neutrals, you can easily compliment both rooms. One in a lighter shade and one in a darker shades. If you are going with a defined color scheme, you can also take a certain color, for example, blue, and use a lighter tone in one room and a darker tone in another. It does depend on your overall look and feel.

If the two rooms blend in together, the same or complimentary carpet would work.

An idea for you if you have multi colors within the two rooms, connect the rooms with colors using the carpet. This would give you a great overall balance between the two rooms.

If you need more help, feel free to share your color schemes and we can go from there. The best of luck to you in deciding which way to go. Thanks again for asking the question, and I hope you are having a great day.
Kimberly
