Peppers can create such a fun and colorful look in a kitchen. I love taking some accessories that people have around the house and using them to create a new and colorful room. This page will give you some ideas on using different inexpensive accessories to create a delightful kitchen.

One of the first steps when decorating a room using accessories is to pick out the main foundation paint of your walls. Peppers are yellow, green, red, and orange. They represent bright tones. Lets take a look at a couple of different accessories and see what color ideas we can come up with.

This first photo is a great way to take a few accessories and create your foundation color of a kitchen or even a breakfast nook area. The napkin holder is a bright red and orange tone. I put a couple of small decorative dishes with a salt and pepper shaker. The foundation paint could be a stark white, possibility a sage green tone that is in the decorative dishes. You could also consider going into the yellow family. Doing peppers in a theme allows you to take one main color and bring in two or three more secondary colors. If you are doing a make over, look at all the other accents you have in your kitchen area. This accessory theme is also wonderful for decorating a restaurant. Are you keeping the same cabinets, furniture and floors? If you are starting from scratch either in a new home or a total make over, blend in your counter top, cabinets, and floors with complimentary colors of your main foundation paint.

Somehow I just can't seem to get away from plants when I decorate inside. There are so many different variety in pepper plants. Ornamental, red, green, cayenne, chili, and more. Many of these plants can be indoor plants. Using decorative pots is another way to use a theme throughout the kitchen or living space. A little indoor garden with other fresh herbs creates a great natural look as well as practical use in everyday cooking. Notice the colors in this decorative pot. If you were to take this as a focal point you could blend in some softer tones in yellow, orange or green. Neutral colors could be incorporated in your walls and ceiling. Ah, one decorative pot and you could decorative your whole kitchen around the pot.

A couple of theme orientated pot holders look great hanging in the kitchen. I like to take a couple of hooks and hang the pot holders. The pot holders act as great accents to create a colorful mood in the room.







Coasters are wonderful to protect your counter tops or furniture. Adding some decorative pepper coasters on a table will continue to create a colorful and cheery feeling around the kitchen area. This coaster is in a bold tone and would look great with white walls. This would give the room a crisp and clean look.

Once you begin to know me you will find out many rooms I decorate will have one or two windchimes in them. Windchimes are known for the outdoors, but I love putting them indoors as well. Whatever your colors or themes may be, using a windchime near a window or even with a hook on a wall, gives the room a colourful look. This windchime blends right into the colors of different peppers.





Finally a great accessory for any room is decorating lighting. Accent lighting is a great finishing touch to any room. In the evening hours this type of lighting can really set off the appearance of the room. Decorative accent lighting is very popular today and you can usually find your theme base lights in major chain stores or speciality stores. They aren't expensive.



If you don't want to go into specialty lighting, a simple strand or two of white miniature lights will also work. The miniature lights add a special touch to a piece of furniture or other areas in the room.

This is one fun idea in interior decorating, taking accessories and creating a room or two around them. If you love peppers, but don't have any accessories, go ahead and buy a couple and play around with the different colors that are in your accessory.

The pepper theme is also great for restaurants and other commercial settings. You can even take this theme and accessories one step further and create an outdoor garden.

A container or ground garden using these plants plus other herbs creates a colorful look outdoors. Using fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs inside and outside gives you a great connection to your entire living space.
