The Porch, Decorating An Indoor Outdoor Area

The porch is wonderful place for a family gathering, a quiet area, and a place you can call your own. There are different structures that I call an "inside - outside area." I wanted to share with you some simple ideas of taking these areas and arranging some furniture to create a cozy atmosphere.

The most important factor is to reflect your favorite colors and bring out your own personality in accents and accessories. On the page, sponge painting, I talk about my own screened in porch. Your goal is to make this area of your living space enjoyable, entertaining, and the decor and color balance well. You can use a lot of different themes to this area. Below are some very simple and easy illustrations to give you some ideas.

Screened In Area
This first illustration is what I consider to be as standard screened in porch. A table with chairs is very common. I like to add plants to this area. There are other accents you can use.
  1. Grill
  2. Indoor Outdoor Fountain
  3. Small accent tables
  4. Other decorative chairs
  5. T.V.
Accessories will create the total atmosphere of the screened in porch. Wind chimes, candles, accent durable rugs, figurines, and whatever your favorite decor consists of.

Front Porch
This is your standard front porch that is attached to a house. In the south, this is a very popular structure. The illustration is basic and as you can see, there are different areas where you can add your own personal touch.

The two cayenne figures represent planters on either side of the doorway. The planters are a great accessory and use can use your favorite annual or perennial flowers, as well as consider putting a dwarf shrub in the center. Feel free to browse through the site map from my other web site, landscape solutions for you.

There are many different plants, flowers, and even herbs you could put in these planters. The four white items are chairs, which you could use Adirondack chairs, wicker, or add some color multi tone cushions. The green circles are a couple of accent tables that are great for beverages and snacks. If your porch is constructed to have hanging plants, put a odd number of hanging baskets up to enhance other colors you are decorating with. I like the idea also of adding a few smaller containers along the stairs. To me, this balances the entire area and feeds into your landscape on either side.

Inside Outside Living Area
The last illustration is an enclosed structure within the house, but also a great view of the outside. There are different names for this type of room, such as a sun room or a Florida room. This is a wonderful area to create a theme base room.

Below the heading are a couple of comfortable and relaxing chairs, with an accent table to put books, candles, and other accessories. The table and chairs give you an opportunity to eat meals with the view of your landscape or gardens. Across from the table is a couch or sofa. In front of the couch is a matching accent rug to highlight your colors you are using. Add a couple of small end tables on either side. The long clear-white shapes on the outside are picture windows that make this indoor outdoor living space come to life. A wonderful room for a variety of style homes.

These three illustrations are simple, but may give you some ideas to decorate your screened in or front porch, or your sun or Florida room. I hope this page gets your creative juices flowing to do some exciting and personal decorating in one of these three areas. Feel free to share your own tips with other visitors to Web site.
