Hope you can help me.

I have a little country cottage near the water that I would like to paint the kitchen cabinets. I am not sure if I should paint them white or off white. The appliances are white and I have a hutch that is off white.

Painting cottage kitchen cabinets

We had brown wood cabinets from the 80's in our lakeside cottage...small windows and it was SO dark. We painted and glazed them in a cream color...lots of work, but amazing change in the overall look of the kitchen. It blended in perfectly with the rustic look of the house...we love it! So, my vote is to GO FOR IT!

Painting Your Kitchen Cabinets

Hi Terry, Kimberly here from interior decorating ideas for you. Thank you for asking the question on what color to paint your kitchen cabinets.

Terry and I have been e-mailing about different ideas. I wanted to share with all of you some of my suggestions as well as some of her thoughts.

There are a couple of options that Terry has. She can paint the cabinets in white to match her appliances. I wouldn't recommend the cabinets in an off white. The cabinets may reflect a dirty look to them.

She could paint the cabinets in a light neutral color that will give the kitchen a warm and soft look. Neutrals will compliment the off white and white colors.

Terry had thought about painting her cooking area a plum color. She mentioned the possibility of painting her eating area white or maybe a purple and white stripe. I like the idea of bringing the plum color in with the white and off white.

Do any of you have thoughts on Terry's decorating project for her kitchen? We would love to hear about them.
