Terminal AC & Heating Unit Covering

Terminal AC & Heating Unit

Terminal AC & Heating Unit

We have a Terminal Air Conditioning & Heating Unit on the wall in our dining room. It is about 4' off the ground and is an eye sore (In my humble opinion).
Is there a way to build a cover that still allows the unit to function successfully but looks more like a cabinet or armoire. I'm thinking something similar to the radiator covers that people can purchase.
I appreciate your time to answer my question. Photo attached.

Cover For Your Terminal AC And Heating Unit
by: Kimberly

Hi Valerie, Kimberly here from interior-decorating-ideas-for-you. Thank you for asking the question on your AC & Heating Unit on your wall.

This is an issue that some people like yourself have to deal with.

There are different products today from a plastic cover, to a do it yourself project. I would recommend if possible to build a decorative cabinet around the unit. You can make it as simple as you want or add doors, so it can be closed when not in use.

You will want to measure all the way around the unit. Two by fours are a good choice. I like the idea of having a shelf on the top to put light weight accessories on. The nice aspect about building a case around the unit is you can paint it to match the wall or blend the case with a complimentary color of the rest of your room.

If you don't feel you can build one yourself, there are companies that actually will build you a box that will fit your unit. You could also consider buildng a shelving unit from the floor up to a little over four feet. This may not be as much work as building a case around the unit. You would decide how long you want the shelves, and build a frame first. The unit itself would be on one shelf, and then you can have decorative accessories on the other shelves.

I hope this helps some and will give you some options for taking care of this eye sore for you. Let us know what you decide and if you have more questions on how to do this, feel free to ask right here. Thanks again Valerie for asking the question. Good luck and have a great day!
Kimberly
