We also have changed in what type of lights we put all over the tree. For years we put large bulbs, starting with just red and green,
and then adding colors of yellow, orange, blue, and white. A couple of years ago I wanted to give our tree a little different
look, so we decided on the miniature lights. Below are some photos Tom took of a few different ornaments on our tree.

Tom always starts with putting up lights at the top. The star goes on first, and then he works his way with a ladder from top to bottom. Each strand of miniature lights is connected, and he always tests the strand of lights before putting them on the tree.

These two pictures represent some very special and sentimental ornaments. The first one is an old ornament that my dad gave us years ago. This holiday ornament was on his Christmas trees growing up in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. Each of my sisters were given some ornaments for their trees also. A great hand me down tradition starting years ago. I love the second photo on the right as this is another ornament my dad gave us. The one on theleft is an ornament from my mom's tree when she was growing up. The few ornaments my mom gave us are very special as she passed away in 2000. Tom and I plan on giving Kelly and Rachael these treasures some day. The middle ornament is one Tom got a few years back. Mr. Claus, and of course I have a Mrs. Claus on the tree.

The first photo is of an ornament my sister in Ohio made for me years ago. It is an eggshell she decorated. Very delicate and we have been very careful not to break it each year. The second picture is of a red bike we got one of the girl years ago. Each year when the girls were young, we would buy them a little ornament that represent an interest of theirs. Our tree is full of years of memories of our girls growing up.

Music has been in all our lives for years. Tom and I both played instruments and sang years ago in school. Both Kelly and Rachael sang and played piano and French horn. It was only fitting that we have a musical note on the tree each year. Next to the musical note is one of our sports teams we love. The Carolina Panthers ornament. Over the years in the different geographic locations Tom and I have lived, we have collected city, sports, and light house ornaments. Buffalo Bills, Syracuse, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Folly Beach, Rochester, New York are just naming a few.

The last two photos is our tree all decorated. The first picture Tom took before it got dark outside. As you can see the tree is covered with traditional and special ornaments and bulbs. The second photo shows the tree in the evening with the lights on. So many memories over the years come to life each Christmas holiday season, when we get out the ornaments for our tree.
Of course there are so many different ways to decorate your Christmas tree. Different cultures decorate with their own traditions.
In the southern
United States many people like decorating with white lights and an eloquent ribbon throughout the tree. Kelly, our oldest daughter has her
tree decorated in this way.
Today, manufacturers are making lights of all colors. From the traditional red and green to different themes in the color of lights. Garland wrapped throughout a tree will sparkle against the lights. How about the strands of cranberries or pop corn hung throughout a tree? Do you have a special way to decorate your real or artificial tree? Feel free to share your tree decorating with us. We would love to see and here how you make your holiday tree decorating special and memorable.
